Produced by laminating a panel of toughened
(tempered) glass between two panels of annealed (non toughened) glass
and left to cure, the panel is then machined to its finished
size, during which, the toughened panel shatters in situ, leaving
the cracked ice effect.
Cracked ice is available in a range of finishes and colours, from
a mirror backed finish (Blue, Green, Bronze, Grey, Rose or Silver)
through to clear glass or a combination of tinted glasses, producing
a panel which allows a certain amount of light to pass through.
By mixing the tints you can achieve lighter or darker finishes. Due
to the nature of this product, we would ask that you submit all cracked
ice designs to our office for approval.
Maximum panel size: 1500mm x 3000mm
Minimum size: 200mm x 400mm
Choice of different shades and mirror finishes
Available in 19.2mm and 30.2mm
Upstands available subject to constraints
Important information when choosing Cracked Ice:
This product requires a great deal of processing and machine time
which is reflected in our manufacturing working tolerances. As the
centre panel is made from toughened glass it is therefore approximately
5 times harder than the 2 outer panels.
Due to its complicated make up, we advise that when designing projects
using cracked ice, panels are designed without any cut outs or holes
as these have a 2 fold effect. They will in certain circumstances,
weaken the two outer layers, increasing the risk of either of them
cracking.
As the cut outs have to be pre-cut before laminating and machining
there is a considerable amount of pressure put on the glass during
the machining process which can also lead to the outer leafs cracking.
